Spire
We were delighted to receive recently the first grant payment from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which has allowed us to start obtaining quotes, reports and costings before making the bigger grant application.
Communion Architects have commissioned Sinclair Johnston on our behalf to produce a report on the condition of the internal steelwork of the spire. He is a highly experienced conservation engineer who has regularly inspected the spire here at St Peter's over the last 20 years.
They have also commissioned a marine engineer to visit site and provide a report in terms of the condition of the GRP fabric / fibreglass.
These two reports will allow us to have a good view on the repairs that need to be carried out. This will then be costed by a quantity surveyor, in order to provide a likely budget for the works.

Communion have also engaged with Robert Myers (a renowned national landscape architect) who will work with us to provide a master plan for the proposed improvements to the churchyard. We believe that this master plan will provide a significant enhancement to the church for locals and visitors alike. We would really like the plan to engage with the river in a far more meaningful way as part of church yard experience.
Finally, a report will be produced including all of the works that we feel should be carried out to the building, as part of the overall bid. These reports will then be submitted to the Heritage Fund as part of the next bid, along with a fully costed plan.
